Joshua D. Brinen is the founder and the principal of the Firm. Mr. Brinen oversees all areas of practice and firm management. Mr. Brinen is a corporate tax and corporate law specialist with a breadth of experience that extends across the broad spectrum of legal matters. Mr. Brinen is a firm believer in the axiom that you think like an attorney first, and like a specialist second. This firm belief allows him to apply creative solutions that a specialist might not consider, such as using an estate planning technique in a corporate matter or utilizing taxation strategies to a securities matter. The goal and the work are what matters, and sometimes that work to achieve that goal may involve more of a careful selection of solutions that is more refined and less rote response. Mr. Brinen focuses his work on entrepreneurs, small and micro-cap companies today – with expertise that extends from securities to tax and accounting to litigation, and across a broad range of industries from manufacturing, oil & gas, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, financial markets and commercial real estate.
In addition to his practice, Mr. Brinen lectures occasionally on topics of securities law and professional ethics. He is licensed to practice law in New York, New Jersey, Florida, California, Texas and Nevada. He is also qualified to practice before the United States Tax Court, the United States District Courts in the Southern, Eastern and Northern Districts of New York, the United States District Court of New Jersey, the United States District Courts in the Northern and Middle Districts of Florida, the United States District Courts in the Northern, Eastern, Central and Southern Districts of California, and the United States District Court in the Northern District of Texas.
He graduated from Bucknell University with an Accounting degree in 1994 and New York Law School with a law degree in 1997. Mr. Brinen earned his LL.M. in Taxation from the NYU School of Law in 2000. Prior to founding the firm, he worked as an associate with trust and estates and tax boutique firms in New York and New Jersey. He also has served as general counsel to early-stage technology companies. He is active in the New York State Bar Association and the Association of the Bar of the City of New York.
“Throughout my career I’ve been inspired by the ideal of a lawyer – a traditional advisor with broad vision of the legal landscape and not just the view of a narrow specialist. That’s the spirit in which I’ve tried to develop myself professionally and that’s the same spirit in which I have gone about building our firm.
I founded the firm as a sole-practitioner in 2003 specializing in tax and trusts and estates. From these humble beginnings we gradually expanded (and sometimes contracted) into litigation and public and private corporate work. My vision has been to grow organically, as we gradually added qualified associates over the course of the ensuing decade, training them as lawyers first, and as specialists second. Over the course of the decade we’ve transformed ourselves into a nationally recognized boutique practice – attending to the general needs of our small cap and micro cap clients.”

Testimonials
I formerly worked as a satellite employee from my home state of New Jersey. I ended my employment with my former employer in 2016. In 2018, I was sued by my former employer for $1.1 million in Illinois State Court. I was referred to Brinen & Associates, LLC by a friend who is a client of the firm. Brinen & Associates, LLC came highly recommended. I contacted Joshua Brinen and then had a consultation at his office with his colleague Mark White. Together, Messrs. Brinen and White explained my options...
